Is your next big home project that of decorating your family room with a Texas theme? Does that mean you're a true Texan? Perhaps you're a transplanted Texan, getting to the Lone Star state just as fast as you could. Or, it might be that you just find Texas home decor fun and attractive. From selecting Texas wall art to choosing the furniture for your family room, here are some ideas that might help you to create an attractive and unique area for your family and friends to enjoy.

Texas Wall Art - Consider the mood you want to set in your Texas-themed family room. If you want something very traditional, think of purchasing paintings or photographs of Texas ranches that have windmills as part of the setting. Another idea is to frame pictures of cities like San Antonio, El Paso, Fort Worth, and San Angelo. If you are wanting a bit of a cowboy feeling to the room, think of framing pictures of famous cowboys like John Wayne, Roy Rodgers, and Alan Ladd.

For whimsical wall art, consider paintings of cute piggies, ponies, and other baby animals wearing the Texas colors, red, white, and blue. No matter the Texas wall art, consider framing photographs, posters, and paintings in rustic wooden frames.

The Right Furniture - Since the family room will more than likely get a lot of use, think of selecting rustic wooden furniture with upholstery that will withstand a lot of wear and tear. One idea is to select leather upholstery for your furniture. Another idea for a Texas themed family room is to choose denim for your upholstery. For a more unique look, choose red denim. Add even more Texas artwork by placing Texas themed throw pillows on the sofa. For example, choose throw pillows that have stars on them, or even a throw pillows with the actual Texas flag as the main design. For a true Texas feeling, consider buying large rocking chairs like those you'd find on a Texas front porch.

As you select your furniture, think of buying a floor-to-ceiling shelf, also made of rustic wood. Besides serving as your entertainment center, you can use the shelf to display Texas artwork like metal statues of wagon trains, horses, and cowboys and cowgirls. For added fun, think of framing a family photo where each of your family members is all decked out in western wear.
